First Visit

It is always a pleasure to meet new patients at their first visit to our office. Your initial consultation will consist of a thorough examination and a discussion of available treatment options. This important visit will give Dr. Grubisa insight into your specific orthodontic needs. At the initial consultation visit, we typically take a panoramic X-ray of your teeth and jaws. If needed, diagnostic records can be done after the consultation visit in many cases.

Diagnostic records include X-rays, photos and impressions for study models. This information is essential for diagnosis and development of the ideal treatment plan. This appointment can often be coordinated with either the consultation or treatment start date if you prefer.

During the initial consultation, we will answer the following questions as well as explain the basics of orthodontic treatment. We encourage you to ask questions as well.

  • Is there a condition that orthodontics can correct?
  • Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption or other factors have occurred?
  • What treatment procedures will be used to correct the problem?
  • Do any teeth need to be removed?
  • How long will treatment take?
  • How much will it cost?
  • What are my payment options?

While Dr. Grubisa can often answer most questions about treatment during the consultation, in certain cases careful analysis of the diagnostic records is needed to answer more detailed and specific questions. Dr. Grubisa feels that it is important to analyse each patient's case carefully, as in-depth treatment planning is the key to optimal results and patient satisfaction.

Prior to commencing orthodontic treatment, we insist that our patients have a clear understanding of their specific needs, what the treatment will consist of, and how long it will take. Please, do not be shy about asking questions; it is always better to ask than to assume or guess. Each of our staff members is available to you to answer questions in their area of expertise and of course, Dr. Grubisa is always available to you as well.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit:

  • Any panoramic X-ray taken within the past six months.
  • Complete medical history including any allergies.
  • Any pertinent dental history, including the name of your dentist and dental specialists that are involved in your dental care.
